If you are ready to replace your missing teeth with All-On-4 dental implants in Panama City, you are making a great decision for your confidence and quality of life. Although you’re excited to enjoy a complete smile again, it’s normal to have some concerns about the road ahead, particularly the recovery. There isn’t any reason to worry. Here’s what you can expect after your placement surgery.
Heading Home After Surgery
After your placement procedure, you won’t have any discomfort until the effects of the sedative and any anesthetic wear off; however, your dentist will recommend taking it easy. It is common for the surgical sites to continue bleeding after you leave the office. Bite on gauze for 30 minutes to control it.
It’s important to rest for the next 24 hours. Do not do anything that may irritate the healing tissue, like touching the surgical sites or smoking, which can prolong the recovery process. Don’t rinse your mouth with water for 24 to 48 hours. It is best to eat a liquid diet for the next few days; however, don’t drink with a straw.
You can manage any discomfort using a prescribed or OTC pain reliever. Applying a cold compress to the outside of your mouth can numb the area temporarily. It will also help reduce swelling and bruising.
The Day After Surgery
Don’t be alarmed if you still experience slight bleeding. You can rinse your mouth with salt water, but don’t do it vigorously. Instead, gently swish it around in your mouth and let it flow out into the sink. Continue your pain medication, liquid diet, and cold compresses.
1-2 Weeks Post-Op
After about 3-4 days, your discomfort will improve gradually. You can head back to work, but avoid bending over or lifting heavy objects. You can introduce soft foods, like yogurt or mashed potatoes. Continue to keep your mouth clean and follow any additional aftercare instructions.
In a couple of weeks, your gum tissue will have healed around the dental implants, but it will take several months for your bone to integrate with the posts. It’s important to maintain any follow-up appointments with your dentist to allow them to monitor your healing.
Enjoying Your New Smile
Once adequate healing has occurred, your dentist will give the go-ahead to resume your regular diet and activities. As you try out your new teeth, you’ll find they closely feel real. You will never have to worry about any slipping or irritation while regaining 70% of your natural biting force.
After a short All-On-4 recovery in Panama City, you’ll benefit from a permanent solution to replace your lost teeth.
